Overview
Students who are recognized as having difficulty in paying tuition for economic reasons and who are recognized as having outstanding academic capabilities, or students who are recognized as having other unavoidable circumstances may be exempted from the payment of the full amount or half the amount of tuition after the screening based on the application.※International Doctoral Students are not eligible to apply for tuition fee waiver based on financial reasons.
The application must be submitted in each semester. Information on the distribution of application forms and application period will be posted on the University’s website, etc. Pay attention to the website to avoid missing the information.

How to submit
Please read Submission Guidelines before submission.
Option 1. Send the application documents to the following address by registered mail
Please send the application documents by registered mail (Kan i Kakitome 簡易書留), LetterPack, EMS or any other delivery methods that you can track the status of your parcel.
*Please write “Application documents for tuition fee Waiver” in red on the address side of the envelope to be sent.
Option 2. Submit the application documents at the Financial Support Section office counter
The application must be submitted in person (Any application by proxy will not be accepted).

Result
The result of application for tuition fee waiver will be posted on the Student Affairs Information System in July for the First (Spring) semester and December for the second (autumn) semester.
Important
- The application will not be accepted after the deadline for any reason. When you send the application documents by post, it must be postmarked on or before the deadline. Please read Submission Guidelines before submission.
- Consult with the Financial Support Section at 022-795-4682 by the day before the deadline when there are circumstances for not being able to submit the application by the deadline. Any claim after the deadline will not be accepted.
- We do not accept the application submitted by “学内便” or email.
- Your application will be excluded from screening procedure if you don’t submit all required documents. Click here for more information
- The application must be submitted in person. If you are not able to come to the office, you must send them by post.
- The deadline differs between the current students and new students. Be sure to submit the application documents before the appropriate deadline. Students who will advance internally in April 2026 (Undergraduate to Graduate, or Master’s to Doctoral program) will be treated as “New Students”.
- When false information is found in any document or fabricated documents are submitted, the approval of the exemption will be revoked and all fees must be paid to the university immediately.
- Undergraduate students who have a visa other than “Student Visa”, such as the Permanent resident, Long-term resident or the Spouse of the Japanese national, must contact the Financial Support Section to confirm if you are eligible to apply.
- Postgraduate students who have a visa other than “Student Visa”, such as the Permanent resident, Long-term resident or the Spouse of the Japanese national, use Checklist A and submit the required documents including your family members in Japan.
